Project Background

In partnership with DTE Energy, ITC is constructing the Shrine Project to support DTE’s interconnection request for additional energy needed in your area as a result of recent expansion of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital. The Shrine Project is approximately one-mile of new 120 kilovolt (“kV”) electric transmission line extending the existing Lenox-Stephens 120 kV transmission line in Sterling Heights and looping into the existing Shrine Station in Clinton Township.

At the Public Meetings, you can learn about the project in greater detail, ask questions and provide comments on the project. This will be an opportunity to talk with the project team about the planned work. No formal presentation will be given, ITC personnel will be available to answer questions on topics such as routing, design and construction, so feel free to come and go as you are able.

FAQs

Why is this project needed?

: In partnership with DTE Energy, ITC is constructing the Shrine Project to support DTE’s interconnection request for additional energy needed in your area as a result of recent expansion of Henry Ford Macomb Hospital.  The Shrine Project is approximately one-mile of new 120 kilovolt (“kV”) electric transmission line extending the existing Lenox-Stephens 120 kV transmission line in Sterling Heights and looping into the existing Shrine Station in Clinton Township.

What is the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC)? How are they involved in the Shrine Project?

  • The MPSC is the state commission with the authority to approve the location of certain new transmission lines.
  • The Michigan Electric Transmission Line Certification Act, Act 30 of 1995 (Act 30), allows an electric utility, affiliated transmission company, or independent transmission company to apply to the MPSC for a certificate of public convenience and necessity. If the MPSC determines that a route meets the Act 30 requirements and grants the certificate, then ITCT can commence construction of the line.
